Kandi Burruss Says Daughter Riley’s 52-Pound Weight Loss Transformed Her Whole Life

The Real Housewives of Atlanta mom opened up about the greater impact of her Riley's new commitment to fitness and health.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta mother-daughter duo Kandi Burruss and her teenager Riley are super close — so close that they dress alike in matching Gucci sweatshirt dresses. Kandi couldn't be prouder of what her daughter's been up to lately, including a prestigious internship and making an inspiring commitment to health and fitness.

"She’s doing it on her own," Kandi told The Lookbook about Riley's 52-pound weight loss and her dedication to working out regularly, saying that Riley is "taking a step to lose that type of weight on her own" with her mom's total support, but without any nagging or pressure to do so. Riley got really into boxing and working with a trainer in Atlanta, and she completely stuck with it.

It turns out that Riley's fitness journey has made an impact way beyond any physical changes. "I feel like her self-esteem and everything has just gotten better. Everything has gotten better," Kandi told The Lookbook. "She started doing way better in school. She started, you know, just figuring out her life plan. She wants to be a lawyer. So last summer she was interning with a law office. She was just being proactive about what she wants to make happen with her life."

Seeing the results from all that work in the gym is so powerful, according to Kandi — and it's something Riley can remember as she strives to make all her goals a reality. "It’s something that she could tell herself: 'I can do anything because I did that myself.'"
